New Online Store, Gear Guide & Rio Aripuanã Report

There's a lot to share this month! We've officially opened the Acute Angling online store, so you can now order the same lures, flies, and gear we use in the Amazon.

We've also put together a full fly fishing gear guide for anyone planning a jungle trip, and we're recapping a record-setting July on the Rio Aripuanã. Plus, a quick update on where to find trip prep guides on our newly reorganized website. Let's dive in.

Opening of the Acute Angling Online Store

We’re excited to announce the opening of the Acute Angling online store. Our goal is simple: to create a one-stop resource for the gear you need to fish South America.

We created the store for two main reasons. First, many of our clients need clothing and gear specifically suited for fishing in the tropics, and we wanted to make it easy to find the right equipment in one place. Second, many of you have asked about the lures and flies we use in the Amazon and want to use them on your own fishing adventures for species such as tarpon, snook, and other gamefish.

We’re starting small with some of the products we use ourselves, including our hand-tied jigs, wood chopper lures, Yozuri lures, and braid. Over time, we plan to add fishing shirts, gloves, buffs, rain jackets, waterproof day bags, flies, additional tackle, and more.

This is just the beginning. Keep an eye on our newsletters and social media as we continue adding new products to the store.

Please note that, at this time, we are only able to ship to clients in the United States and Canada.

Fishing report for the Rio Aripuanã

We were blessed with awesome fishing this past July. A new Acute Angling record was set at this location with a father and son team catching 20 different species of fish during their stay. Sometimes you just get lucky with the combination of good weather, good water levels, and good fishing and that is what happened this July.

Clients’ feedback was positive and they really enjoyed themselves. Payara fished well, peacock bass chased artificial lures aggressively, several nice redtails and surubim-cachara and caparari catfish were landed, and host of other species as well. One client caught a red pacu which is less common and I was fortunate to land a pirapitinga.

We have a few spots for this November if you would like to join us. Please note that we don’t have a lot of availability left for next July. If you have been considering this trip then I suggest you give us a call and get the last spots for next season.

One change to our website navigation

Previously we had a tab on the home page called trip prep guides. We have now removed that, and there are two ways to locate the trip prep guide for your specific trip. 

1. The trip prep guide for a specific trip can be found on the general trip page. For example, if you want to find the trip prep guide for the Black Water Explorer peacock bass trip simply click on the Black Water Explorer trip page, scroll down, and you will find the link/button to the Black Water Explorer trip prep guide. 

2. Use the resources drop down menu and click on trip prep guides. You will then be taken to a page with all the trip prep guides listed. Please select the guide that corresponds to your trip.
