New Destination: Trophy Rainbow Trout in the Heart of Patagonia
Acute Angling

We are happy to announce a new location unlike any other we have in our portfolio. Lago Strobel (also nicknamed Jurassic Lake) is home to massive rainbow trout and is considered one of the top locations for trophy rainbow trout in the world.
Please see the newly released promotion video here:
Why you should consider this location
Huge and healthy rainbow trout. Most common catches are in the 5–12-pound range, but dozens of 20+ pound rainbows are landed here each season. It has the nickname Jurassic Lake for a reason. The power of the fish is incredible. Rarely do you see your backing when fishing for trout, but that is not the case at Lago Strobel. The temperature of the water is cold, crystal clear, and ideal for trout. Aquatic food sources are abundant, and the fish are healthy and strong.
Access to private water. The estancia has miles of private access on Lago Strobel, the Barrancoso river, and it has several lagoons within the property.
Argentinian Cuisine: Imagine returning the to lodge after a day of fishing and being welcomed to a warm fire pit and food such as empanadas, dulce de leche, gnocchis, fine wine, and of course asado. This area of Patagonia is known for delicious lamb and slow cooking it over an open fire pit is the best way to experience it.
Other activities nearby: Calafate is famous for glacier tours such as Perito Moreno Glacier which can be experienced via trekking or kayaking. A short drive from Calafate is El Chalten where dwells the towering peak of Mount Fitz Roy which is the symbol of the clothing brand Patagonia. Chalten is major hub for trekking in Patagonia. 4 x 4 tours also leave from Calafate to Torres Del Paine national park. Do a simple google search of this area and you will see it is stunning.
Trip length is customizable: From Calafate it is a 4-hour drive to Lago Strobel. Because there are multiple daily flights from Buenos Aires to Calafate anglers can come and go when they please. You can schedule any number of days of fishing, but we would encourage you to book at least 4 as it can sometimes be windy and you may get a morning or afternoon of difficult fishing conditions.
Important Note: Lago Strobel is fly fishing only. However, you do not need a perfect cast to enjoy fishing in this area. The fish cruise the shoreline looking for scuds and leeches, so a simple 20-foot cast is all you need to have success here. Sometimes a longer cast is helpful, but it is not necessary to enjoy the fishing. It is also not super technical. Generally, wind causes waves/surface breakup on the lake so a less delicate or precise cast can still catch fish. Anglers will also find the guides speak English very well and are excellent instructors.

We encourage you to look at the promotion video and give this location consideration. It is a one of kind destination. Couple it with glacier tours and hikes next to many of the most beautiful peaks in the world and you have an adventure you will talk about for years to come.
